I recreated a map

I’ve honestly forgot why I decided to start tracing the official ATM Barcelona map. In an ADHD hyperfocus moment, I managed to trace the current map and update it with future metro expansions.
The design
The current integrated rail map of the Barcelona area, made by Jug Cerović and Martí Ruiz in 2023, looks very clean and balanced. In contrast with the old version of the same map, rapid transit takes the highlight in the center, as opposed to regional rail in the old version.
I quite like what they’ve done with it, to be honest. It’s certainly an improvement in pretty much all areas.
Recreating it
Luckily for me, all lines on the map are either straight or in a 45° angle, except for the Diagonal avenue, which is at a 35° angle. This meant that it was a lot easier for me to trace the original map to make my own version of it.
I did not copy every element of the map, because I was only interested in the proper Barcelona city and its surroundings, not in the whole metropolitan area (Barcelona centralism baby!). Also I was too lazy to bother with the line styles, so all lines look the exact same :3c
What does the future look like?
I included several expansions to the map from the PDI (Master Plan for Infrastructures) 2021-2030, a 10 year plan about transportation and infrastructure. Despite its name, many of the projects listed are not going to happen within these 10 years; a lot of them are just projects but are not planned and have no feasibility study behind.
Despite all of this, I decided to include the following extensions (ordered by likelihood of actually happening):
- L9/L10 central trunk
- L8 Pl. Espanya - Gràcia
- Tram connection through the Diagonal avenue
- L4 La Pau - Sagrera
- L3 Trinitat Nova - Trinitat Vella
- L1 Hospital de Bellvitge - El Prat Estació
- L1 Fondo - Estació de Badalona
- L2 Poble Sec - Aeroport T1
- L10 Pratenc
- L3 Zona Universitària - Sant Feliu
- L12 Reina Elisenda - Finestrelles | Sant Joan de Déu
- Tram Estació de Sant Adrià - Port de Badalona
- Tram Sant Feliu - Quatre Camins
I also included some infill stations on line 9 and line 10 that are not opened (e.g. Motors, La Ribera, or Aeroport Terminal de Càrrega).
